The annual Steam Awards 2018 were awarded on the popular gaming platform to honor the most popular PC and VR titles of the past year. So the players could vote on their favorite titles and thereby determine the winners of last year. The trophy for the most popular VR game of the year 2018 secures developer Bethesda with Skyrim VR.
Steam Awards 2018 – Skyrim VR named VR Game of the Year 2018
The votes of the Steam community were counted and the result of the Steam Awards 2018 is fixed. For example, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds was voted Game of the Year, while CD Project Red was named Best Developer. The “VR Game of the Year 2018” category is all about innovation and fun with the technology. So, those responsible for the awards describe the category as follows:
“VR is the wild west of game design – a land of no law and evolving standards that just about everything is allowed. Not only does the winner of this award have a great deal of fun, but he also helps set a course for the future of the medium. ”
There were five different heavyweights for the favor of the players. Accordingly, these VR titles were nominated for the trophy:
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR
- Beat Saber
- Fallout 4 VR
- SUPERHOT VR
Surprisingly, in 2018, contrary to all expectations, not the success-spoiled Beat Saber secured the throne. The winner of the award is instead The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR Developer Studio Bethesda. The VR port for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows VR goggles brings the open RPG gaming world into the virtual realms, allowing immersive exploration of Skyrim.
The VR version of the Action RPG has enjoyed worldwide popularity and has already been recognized for its commercial success in the PlayStation VR (PSVR) console version at the Sony PlayStation Awards Asia 2018. We have already tested the PC version of the game in an early version. What awaits you in this, you will learn here.
What do you think of the winner? Has the VR title rightly made it to first place or would you rather see another candidate on the winning throne?
