Developer studio Sanzaru Games released new information about the upcoming VR adventure Asgard’s Wrath for Oculus Rift. So the developers announce how the asynchronous multiplayer mode works, and provide new insights into weapons, heroes and companion animals.
Asgard’s Wrath – New information on the upcoming asynchronous multiplayer feature revealed
Asgard’s Wrath puts you in a fantasy setting around gods and feats of Norse mythology. You walk through the world in a first-person perspective and take on the role of a young god who helps various heroes of the country to fulfill their tasks.
A sophisticated and realistic combat system with realistic physics engine and gore elements, switching between different characters and summoning companions are also part of the gameplay, as well as the looting of items and the interaction with your environment. In addition to challenging matches, you will also be confronted with various puzzles during the 30 to 40 hours of game time.
Now there is new information about the game contents of those responsible. For example, Oculus Studios Executive Producer Mike Doran announced on his own Discord server that the announced asynchronous multiplayer feature does not include a classic co-op, but still provides player interaction:
“The asynchronous multiplayer feature in Asgard’s Wrath is not based on high scores or challenges. Instead, we wanted to integrate something more involved in the story. As players move across the country, they will inevitably end up facing a game-over-screen. If this happens, an automatic marker will be placed at the approximate point of death (there will be some places where this does not happen, but basically this is the principle).
The special feature is that this mark also appears in the games of other players. These then have the choice to take on the challenge and compete against the deadly enemy to bring the soul of another fallen player to Valhalla. As a reward, there are points for a unique system of progress. The resulting items are only available through such actions. ”
Accordingly, the players in their single player campaign expect special combat challenges from particularly difficult opponents, in which other young gods have failed. An innovative system.
Asgard’s Wrath – Playable Heroes, Companions, and Ranged Weapons
More news is available on the playable heroes and companion animals:
“This is not a kind of class selection at the beginning of the game. Instead, the players unlock the characters and can then switch between the collected heroes at will. As already demonstrated in the trailer, each of them has a special mechanism. However, not all playable heroes have been featured in the video yet. ”
Also the companion animals, which can be generated by magic, were further illuminated. Thus, three different animals were presented in the trailer, but it should be much more variants available in the game. In addition, players can interact with their companions, such as playing with a ball or giving each other high-fives.
For combat, in addition to melee options, there are also bow weapons available. To mitigate these somewhat stronger opponents should, however, be able to block arrows. Currently, the devs are still working on the right balancing for the introduction of firearms.
Further insights into the physics engine and the combat system will be presented at the upcoming GDC 2019 in March. Asgard’s Wrath is scheduled for release in 2019 exclusively for Oculus Rift.
