G-Core Labs, the international cloud and edge leader in web performance, content delivery and security, has brought together thousands of World of Tanks players and viewers from all the official streaming sites of the popular tank action from the International Space Station. With the help of the cloud-based media platform G-Core Labs, uninterrupted retransmission of the World of Tanks special event around the world, dedicated to the celebration of International Cosmonautics Day, was ensured throughout the world.

From April 12 to 15, users of the world’s largest online game received real-time combat missions directly from the ISS. The games began with greetings live from the crew of the ISS, Alexei Ovchinin and Oleg Kononenko, in orbit. And another cosmonaut of Roscosmos, the hero of Russia Oleg Artemyev, conducted a space online quiz for tank lovers, an interactive online quiz on the subject of space and space technologies with prizes for erudite audiences.

Wargaming, the developer of international best-selling games World of Tanks, World of Warships, World of Warplanes and many others use the G-Core Labs cloud-based media platform to transmit a stable signal to all continents for more than half a year, but the teams have been preparing for this project especially carefully.

“We were tasked with ensuring the exemplary quality of seamless broadcasting without buffering and interruptions. All video streams (main and backup) flowed to the media platform, then distributed to all platforms of the audience presence on the Internet. The main specificity of this project was associated with the need to synchronize with the International Space Station, which, as you know, makes 16 revolutions around the Earth in 24 hours, and there were 4 game days ahead. For this, our team quickly created an additional software, which allowed to take into account these specifics and continue to broadcast a special information and entertainment stream continuously for 3 days after the event itself, which the audience could watch at the site WGwatch.ru. In general, the preparation for the project by G-Core Labs took no more than 3 days, the players and the audience were satisfied with the result, ”said Mikhail Shurygin, CEO of G-Core Labs in Russia.
