Niantic – the mobile game development company with elements of augmented reality Pokemon Go – plans to create an interactive map of the whole world with the help of players. This was reported by CEO John Hanke in an interview with Reuters.
Why all this?
According to the executive director of Niantic, the company wants “the players themselves to create a platform where they will be interested in playing.” For the realization of her ideas, she is going to attract resources of users who can scan the terrain with the help of cameras of smartphones during the game. This data will be processed by special software that automatically generates a map from scanned objects and landscapes.
Niantic argues that the development of an AR-card in the future will allow it to be used in third-party projects to create a “new social activity”. It is not known whether this card will be used in the company’s upcoming games.
Recall that in March 2018, Google opened the Google Maps API to create game locations that change in real time right on the maps.
