Sony is the only manufacturer of virtual reality glasses for which sales figures are published. Samsung also released some sales figures for their Gear VR headsets, but these systems offer a different caliber of experience than the PlayStation VR.
The last time we heard that Sony was able to sell 3 million headsets at the time of August 2018. The headset first went on sale at the end of 2016. The PlayStation Aim controller was released in 2017 with support for some VR shooters. Astro Bot, Beat Saber and other games clearly stimulated sales of the system in 2019.
Sony, in addition to announcing a series of new VR games that will become available for virtual reality glasses in the next few months, including No Man’s Sky and Five Nights At Freddy’s, announced another important news.
Of course, we are curious about the future of Sony’s VR system. PlayStation Move controllers and one sensor used with the PSVR system can be significantly improved in the second generation of equipment. Oculus has just announced its second generation Rift S, and we are wondering if Valve will follow its rival’s example.
Sony should provide an updated version of the PS5 system at some point. But, at the moment, as reported by Sony, it was able to sell a particular, 4.2 million PSVR headsets. VRcue believes that these numbers should ensure the best possible sales of the second generation device, which could improve the gaming experience. We will notify you as soon as we hear what else Sony plans to surprise us with.
