Sean Leiden from the PlayStation hopes that the PSVR 2 release will happen anyway. And maybe we can even see PSVR 3 and 4, for that matter.
In a recent Game Informer interview, Leiden, who heads Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) US, said the PSVR changes over the next 10 years will be “dramatic.” Speaking about the future of the platform, he compared its growth with the growth of smartphone sales. He reasoned that it is difficult to understand how modern phones evolved from their predecessors.
“Similarly, if you look at PSVR right now, none of us can imagine what it will look like in 10 years, but the changes will be quite precise, quite dramatic. You can not immediately get to version 5.0 until it was released 1.0. It’s just a law of nature, ”said Leiden.
His words seem to call for patience on the front of the PSVR 2. We just calmed down when we heard that high-level Sony executives were speaking as if the next version of the headset could exist.
With more than three million units sold, PSVR is considered the most successful and largest virtual reality headset on the market. Leiden himself later stated:
“I think we are the largest VR platform in the world.”
But this is only part of the 91.6 + million units sold by the PS4 itself. There is no guarantee that Sony will continue to work with the environment until it finally says about it herself.
However, we have seen many patents that indicate possible improvements. At the moment, PSVR 2 is likely to debut on PS5, the console, which is also not yet announced.
