There will be two design options.
It was a rather busy week of hardware announcements of virtual reality (VR), and this train has not stopped yet. Pimax chose this week to announce their latest Sword motion controllers.
Pimax motion controllers have gone through many iterations, appearing at past events in one form or another. The most recent was CES 2019, where it became known that the models shown were fictitious, but looked very similar to those shown.
Controllers come in two versions: Sword and Sword Sense. The main difference is that the Sword controller has a trackpad, while the flagship controller Sword Sense has sensors for tracking fingers and a smaller track panel for the thumb. They look very similar to Valve’s Index controllers. The Sword Series also has an adjustable strap that clasps the back of the hand, allowing players to release the controller when throwing a virtual object, for example.
Other features include a 900mAh replaceable and rechargeable battery.
“Many of our users complained to us that, plunging into VR, they often find controllers suddenly discharged, and then they have to go back to the real world to recharge them. In this situation, they should always remember to charge the battery. These are the main reasons for developing a replaceable and rechargeable battery, ”said Kevin Henderson, NA and EU Operations Manager, Pimax VR in a statement.
“During the development of new controllers, we joked that the most popular prototype resembled a sword hilt and the name stuck. These new controllers are the next step for Pimax, offering first-class equipment to end users and B2B customers who are looking for attractive and reliable projects. The balance of these controllers is in your hands and the level of comfort will surely please many VR enthusiasts, ”Kevin adds
“Our goal is to provide the best experiences in VR. As we release new controllers, the use of the latest Lighthouse technology will allow us to offer complete VR systems that are expandable and versatile than any other VR offer. ”
The Sword series works with base stations 1.0 and 2.0 SteamVR, and they are expected to be available in the second half of 2019. They can also be pre-ordered from the Pimax website now in four combinations, depending on whether customers want two trackpads, for two thumbs or for one for each. Plus base stations are included in the price of $ 300 USD for any combination.
