Surprisingly, the Oculus Quest headset was not endowed with any VR application representing a social network. It is likely that their developers can not come to a compromise with Facebook and Oculus.

At the moment, Facebook has created only 4 social networks in virtual reality:

  • Oculus home. The application allows you to build virtual houses, as well as invite guests, chat and chat with them. Social network is available on Rift.
  • Oculus venues. The application allows multiple users to watch a video or talk. Available on Oculus Go and Gear VR.
  • Facebook Sapces. It has all the functionality of Facebook. The application is available for Rift and Vive.
  • Oculus Rooms. The application allows you to get a personalized virtual home and invite friends to it to communicate. Available on Rift.

As you can see, the functions of the above applications are similar, but they are designed for different platforms. Due to this, users had confusion, which led to the fact that they went to a more understandable and simple platform – Rec Room and VRChat.

It is important to note the fact that none of the applications is intended for a new virtual reality helmet. And this is despite the fact that the same Rooms and Venues are still available on Oculus Go. The company is probably preparing something special for Quest, but competitors have already successfully intercepted a significant market share because of this.

At the moment, Facebook is simply unavailable on Quest, and when it appears, users will again have 4 social platforms at their disposal, which could well fit one. At the moment, no official information has been received from Facebook.

VRcue will continue to keep you updated on Oculus Quest events.
