Pre-orders for the virtual reality helmet are already open.

In January, during the CES 2019 technology event in Las Vegas, HTC Vive announced its next virtual reality helmet (VR) – Vive Cosmos. Not so long ago, the opportunity was launched to place a preliminary order for the device at a cost of £ 699 GBP / $ 699 USD. Now, the development company has revealed additional data about the new product.

While HTC Vive Pro is designed more for corporate use cases, Vive Cosmos is the company’s new high-quality headset for consumers. It features built-in tracking without the need for additional sensors in the room. Vive Cosmos has a combined resolution of 2880 × 1770 (1440 × 1700 per eye) and uses an LCD display, which is located on the device’s modular panel.

This modular faceplate allows users to add accessories to the device as needed. The first may well be the Vive Cosmos External Tracking Mod, which will be available in the first quarter of 2020. This new modular faceplate will allow customers who have the Lighthouse tracking system to use it with Vive Cosmos. This will expand the functions of the headset.

In addition, Vive Cosmos will be compatible with the Vive wireless adapter for those that are especially relevant for those who want to immerse themselves in the world of really crazy games.

This is not just a new virtual reality helmet created by HTC Vive. Vive Cosmos will be the first to offer the new Vive Reality System (VRS), which is a rethought hub for connecting to the latest video games and applications. Cosmos will feature a redesigned user interface called Lens to navigate XR and Viveport Infinity applications, as well as Origin’s new dynamic home space.

“Since Vive began our journey into VR, we have continued to refine and improve what can and should become a premium VR experience,” said Graeme Wheeler, GM Vive Europe in a statement.

“Cosmos offers an unrivaled experience and is also our most versatile headset. It has integrated built-in tracking, faceplate options for various users, unlimited content and a new user interface. We see endless possibilities for XR customers. We are thrilled to provide the promised premium VR device to an ever-growing audience, as Vive Cosmos is our largest European retail product to date, when it comes to VR. ”

Vive Cosmos is currently available for pre-order through or through some retailers in the U.S. such as, Best Buy Canada, B&H Photo, GameStop,, and The kit sells for £ 699 / $ 699, and the official consumer release will take place on October 3, 2019.
