Google, to our regrettable regrets, closes the VR studio Spotlight Stories, which was used as a tool to promote virtual reality technology in storytelling.

Now, a copy of the letter written by Keren Dufillo, executive producer of Spotlight Stories, has fallen into the hands of journalists. It says that the studio will be closed soon.

“Spotlight Stories closes after more than 6 years of creating amazing virtual reality stories for smartphones, computer monitors.

At the same time, the official representative of Google confirmed this message with the following statement:

“From the very same stage as Spotlight Stories was created, she sought to rethink the essence of storytelling in VR. From short films like “Son of Jaguar”, “Sonaria” and “Back to The Moon”, to the recognition of critics of the work “Pearl” (the winner of the Emmi and the first ever virtual reality film nominated for Oscar). Now, the Spotlight Stories team, after having sufficient influence on the immersive narrative, leaves this field. But we are proud of the work done. ”

Recall that in the 6 years of its existence, Spotlight Stories has created a total of 13 short films. She began her journey as an internal division of Motorola, but later joined the ATAR division at Google.
