Today, in ChinaJoy 2019, HTC reported that Nostos is released in the fourth quarter of 2019 and the game will be compatible with Viveport. VR MMO will also be released on Steam.
Now, to make things clear, the project is also coming out on Steam with support for all the main VR PC headsets, including Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows MR devices and Index Valve. As far as we can tell, there won’t be a period of exclusivity with Viveport, but that could change by the time the game comes out directly. In any case, it will also be released on Steam.
We got the news that Nostos will be released in Viveport in the 4th quarter of 2019 through a press release directly from HTC, which implies some kind of partnership. The press release says:
“Nostos, an open-world role-playing game (RPG) from the Chinese technology giant NetEase, will be launched at VIVEPORT in Q4 2019. He will have a huge world that allows several players to explore, fight, and build abundant biomes, from open meadows to mysterious coral seas. ”
Nostos did have an open alpha testing period a few months ago, but NetEase was also relatively tightly connected to the upcoming open VR MMORPG. In addition, NetEase continues to describe it as an “open-world RPG,” not MMORPG, but from what we can say, all the typical RPG features are included, although they may not be so expressed.
At the moment, OrbusVR is still the only real VR MMO on the market, except perhaps for social VR applications such as Rec Room, VRChat and High Fidelity. But they are more focused on social functions than on mass gaming experience.
