The beautiful medieval cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris suffered from a devastating fire during the renovation. Unfortunately, the spire and most of the roof were lost, but fortunately, the rest of the building remained untouched.

President Macron has vowed to restore his beloved cathedral. But until this happens, it is likely to be partially or completely unavailable.

Fortunately, you can use the power of virtual reality to visit Notre Dame without even leaving the room.

TARGO 360 ° documentary

TARGO is a French video immersive company. Just two months ago, they released an 8-minute 360 ° documentary about the Notre Dame Cathedral.

The documentary film is dedicated to the current “abbot-archpriest” of the cathedral, and also covers its history. The camera takes you to all corners of Notre Dame, even to the top of one of the towers.

TARGO videos are available for viewing through various VR platforms and video providers:

  • Oculus Go / Gear VR: type in the search bar “the Man Behind Notre-Dame” in the main menu
  • PlayStation VR: find a video using YouTube or use the LittleStar app
  • PC VR: using YouTube or use the LittleStar app

Google Earth VR

Google Earth uses a combination of satellite and aerial photography and high-resolution 3D scanning to digitally recreate the real world. One of the cities with full detailed scanning is Paris. Google Earth VR allows you to scale the world as you like, and physically bypass it in virtual reality.

Google Earth VR is available for free on the Oculus Rift and SteamVR.

You can find Notre Dame in Google Earth VR by opening the main menu and clicking on the search icon below. Just find Notre Dame and select it. We recommend changing the time of day to sunrise to see the warm glow on the stone.

Eagle flight

A less obvious way to virtually see the cathedral is in the game from Ubisoft 2016 Eagle Flight. You fly like an eagle from the first person with the simple goal of building your nest on the highest point you can find among the overgrown ruins of Paris in the distant future. The first nest is at the very cathedral of Notre Dame.

Eagle Flight is available on the Oculus Rift, SteamVR and PlayStation VR.
